The iSimangaliso site consists of thirteen contiguous protected areas with a total size of about 230 000 hectares. It is the third largest park in South Africa and it stretches over more than 280 km of coastline. The site is the largest estuarine system in Africa and includes the continent’s most southern extension of coral reefs. The Park’s location between sub-tropical and tropical Africa as well as its coastal setting has resulted in exceptional biodiversity including more than 500 bird species.

The name iSimangaliso means miracle or wonder and it is really a suitable name for this incredible park. The Parks Board likes to talk about the parks ten jewels and because of the parks diversty we will also treat each one of them individually.
